Paua Shell is the shell of the Abalone mollusc (producer of the Abalone pearl) and has a stunning blue/green colour.
It is also called Sea Opal, and is usually cut into flat beads for setting into rings or pendants. It is difficult, almost impossible to cut Paua into beads.
Abalone or Paua Shell is a type of Mother-of-Pearl found only off the coasts of South Africa or America.
